Three thousand individuals this week will become an amputee (almost 18 per hour). Many of these people will be unable to access prosthetic care. In fact, some will not even be able to afford a $20.00 stump sock. Because our reputation and services are nationally recognized, many will turn to Limbs for Life for help. We are often their first, and sometimes, their last hope. With adequate funding, we are able to help transform lives from a state of depression and isolation to one of confidence and productivity. Please take a moment to read the stories of our recipients below, whose lives have changed because of Limbs for Life.
Nathan Dooley Right leg below-knee amputee became known to Emory Motorsports around the first of this 2005. The fact that he had contracted a flesh-eating bacteria made local news. After sustaining a simple wound from an off-road motorcycling accident in November, the wound became infected. Just 19 years old, Nathan is from Grants Pass, OR but was being treated at Portland's OHSU Medical Center for his condition. Known as necrotising facsitis, this bacteria is a rapidly spreading organism. Left unchecked and without the amputation of his right leg below the knee, he would have died in a matter of days.
In cooperation with Limbs for Life Foundation, Nathan was the second limb recipient under the Emory Motorsports/L4L effort. Please see how we plan to change the lives of 93 people.
Limbs for Life and Emory Motorsports have teamed up to bring you a unique opportunity. We will be raffling off a 1953 Porsche to raise money for the foundation. This one-of-a-kind automobile was restored by Rod and Gary Emory in 1989. It is street-legal, but has seen time in competition road races.
We are limiting the number of raffle tickets to 2,000 to give you a good chance to win the car. The drawing will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Limbs for Life's benefit dinner in Dallas, Texas. You don’t have to be present to win.
